To all friends and fans of VCON

The realities of the COVID Pandemic devastated our organization. Unable to run events for the first few years and too many of our staff-level members weighed down with troubles of their own, it became impossible to consider events beyond monthly meetups for chats and tabletop games.

HOWEVER! At the beginning of 2024, the Excutive Board of VCON’s parent non-profit organization (West Cost Speculative Fiction Association – WCSFA) put a multi-year plan in place to revive and rebuild our association and, ultimately, bring back VCON.

They began by holding two single-day events in 2024 – Fandom Bazaar (a geeky/nerdy flea market, held in June at the Sapperton Community Hall in New Westminster) and Here Be Dragons (a one-day mini-con on the theme of Exploration and Discovery, held in November at the BCIT Burnaby Campus) – with the following goals:

  • reacquaint the community with our organization,
  • regrow our volunteer corps, and
  • restore our finances to a level able to support hosting VCON again.

2025 is another “rebuilding” year, with Fandom Bazaar coming back in the spring and another one-day mini-con (name and theme TBD) in the fall. And if all goes as well this year as it did last year, VCON could return as early as next year (2026)!

We look forward to seeing you again!
