VCON features an art show and auction every year where local artists can display their work and VCON members can buy them. Works on display include paintings, sculpture, cartoons, and other objets d’art with some relationship to science fiction, fantasy, gaming, horror, and related themes. The art show also includes work from our Artist Guest of Honour, James F. Beveridge.
The following table contains information about all of the artists who will be exhibiting their work at VCON this year. The list will be updated as more artists come on board.
| Name | Website | Info |
|---|---|---|
| James Beveridge (Artist GoH) |
www.jamesbeveridge.com | Bon vivant and man-about-town. JAMES is also VCON 35's Artist Guest of Honour. |
| George Metzger (Artist GoH Emeritus) |
GEORGE was an underground comics artist in California in the mid-1960s and early 1970s and later worked for several animation studios in Vancouver. He told our Art Show Director that he is rummaging about in his files and will bring along samples of early works that will easily fit the Steampunk theme. We very much look forward to having him come back "home" to VCON — he was Artist GoH at VCON 8 in 1980. | |
| Lynn Fahnestalk (Artist GoH Emeritus) |
Aurora winner and partner of the lovely and talented Steve Fahnestalk, the VCON art auctionier. LYNNE'S take on SteamPunk will make you smile. She was Artist GoH at VCON 31 in 2006. | |
| Ann Blackwell | AnnBlackwell.etsy.com | For our Costume lovers, check out ANN’S beadwork, and her dolls are fascinating creatures/fetishes/goddesses. |
| Apis Teicher | In the print shop only this year, look for APIS' works of wonder. | |
| Beth Baisch | BETH has shown with us for a few years now and each year we see growth and different interest immerge in her work. | |
| Carolyn Bruce | Eclectic, artistic, humerous, what she can’t do with a few beads, a couple of pins and a feather or two. Prepare to be delighted by CAROLYN's work. | |
| Cheri Streimikes | Showing with us again this year after too long away, CHERI will provide her view of Steampunk for our enjoyment. | |
| Chilam | cerebrospace.com/fantasy | CHILAM's work features characters and scenes from Varzuun, a world of his own creation as well as well-received illustrations based on popular movies & TV shows. He has mainly worked in acrylics, pen & ink, and pencil but has also started working with digital media as well. |
| Debra Blades | www.debrascollageart.com | An amazing and imaginative way to bring new life to vintage train cases and box purses. They will add that little something extra to your Steampunk attire – or enliven your everyday wear! Debra’s Journals will make you want to keep notes. |
| Eliza Leahy | From New Zealand, ELIZA'S work is brought to use each year by Julianna McCorison. Her scratchboard works will fair bowl you over mate! | |
| James Ng | JamesNgArt.com | JAMES is new to us this year and comes via his interest and interpretation of steampunk from an Asian point of view. It is one that is fresh and clear and we welcome him to our show and sale. |
| Jeff Ward | www.stungeonstudios.com | JEFF has won several art show awards at Science Fiction conventions including: Tropicon XVIII, Orycon 18, and Constellation XV: Aquilla. He continues to illustrate book covers and magazines. Most recently he's been focusing his abilities on creating eye-catching illustrations for the gaming industry. |
| Kyle Miller | www.ThinGypsyThief.com | KYLE works in wood and has produced the most elaborate and polished pieces I have seen. Stempunk is his theme, and he does it up right! |
| Marguerite Stonehouse | MARGUERITE brings a new look to stained glass. You can see the Rings of Saturn in a lamp, or a detailed Blue Wizard window hanging. | |
| Melissa Duncan | melissaduncan.com | Some of MELISSA'S artistic heroes are Brian Froud, Alan Lee and just about any Renaissance Dutch Master. History, folklore and the beauty of the natural world, are her inspiration. |
| Michelle Vulama | michellevulama.com | Check out MICHELLE's website and take a really good look. She sees things in rock and stone and with a few strokes of her brush brings them to life. Her works range in size from pebbles to double fist sized rocks. It’s always obvious when someone shows you where to look! |
| Olga Cuttell | oladesign.ca | Fantasy awaits you when you look deep into the heart of OLGA’S works |
| Pauline Walsh | VCON 35's very own vice-chair and maker of the most interesting little people and inventive wearable art. | |
| Rebecca Tsang | We are pleased that REBECCA is rejoining us this year. Her anime-styled works are crisp, but she has several styles and always surprises. | |
| Tammy Routley | TAMMY'S caricatures will bring a smile. Her style is whimsical and easy to be with. And for us, just a little bit left of centre! | |
| Thyrza Segal | thyrza.ca | You will marvel at THYRZA'S Critters and ask yourself if Tim Burton knows her, or if she knows him. |
| William Lee | Black and White Photographer returning this year. WILLIAM sees the usual and photographs it from an unusual angle. |
