The Vancouver Convention of Science Fiction and Fantasy has been gathering sci-fi and fantasy culture since 1971. We are open-interest, celebrating inclusively literature, art, media, music, costumes, comics, gaming, and onwards.
We are entirely volunteer-run: we pour in our love and attention and take no monetary profit.

VCON 37 is September 28-30, 2012 at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel in Surrey.

VCON 37:
Post-Apocalypse

is bringing you the end of the world:
with friends!

Prepare yourself.

Join us!

There are multiple ways to participate:

Buying a membership will give you access to the whole convention. Registering and booking your room early helps cover our costs early, so we can have better stuff for the con! We also offer swag packages and student/youth/senior discounts.

Volunteering with us directly involves you in whatever aspect of the convention interests you, big or small, on-site or beforehand.

Book your room!

We have a new hotel this year! We'll be at the Guildford Sheraton (15269 104th Avenue) in Surrey, 10 minutes from Surrey Central Station. Shuttles available!

It's only $99 for a huge room with a King or Two Queen beds, at double, triple or quadruple occupancy! Free parking, free internet, hot tub, and a heated outdoor pool. Book now.

Join the Conversation!

Our new forums are open! Got suggestions? Please join us and offer your thoughts on what panels and other events should be run at VCON!

Want to host a panel?

Professionals who would like to be considered as VCON 37 panelists june send a bio and personal write-up to Pauline Walsh at programming@vcon.ca.

Panel suggestions and requests can be discussed in the forums.

Sponsor VCON!

VCON is run by the not-for-profit WCSFA society. We offer paid sponsorship of all our materials, including the newsletter, in the form of ads. This helps to offset costs and fund the convention.

If you have a product or service that you would like to promote to hundreds of science fiction and fantasy fans, please visit our Advertising page or contact advertising@vcon.ca.

The VCONversation continues...

WE NEED YOUR HELP! VCON runs entirely on volunteers, and we’re running short this year. ConCept in Montreal is recently dead for lack of people like you and me to help out. We’re looking for all types of help, big and small, now and during the con.

Help us stay alive in the face of the apocalypse! We have letters of recommendation, resume buffing, and the undying gratitude of 400+ fans to offer in return. Check out our Volunteer page to help out.

In this issue of the VCONversation, we've got a couple of announcements and a movie article by our Archive, Graeme Cameron, who has been very helpful in converting and archiving this newsletter in PDF form on Efanzine.

A few people have written in letters to the editor, and I really appreciate this! Especially on a relatively new venture like the VCONversation, it's nice to get some feedback on how you're reading this newsletter. I am intending on publishing all three letters so far, and their replies, in the next edition!

Here's to a warm (if not so sunny) month!

-Sayata, Comms Coordinator for VCON 37

About the Book Launch

This year’s Book Launch will be a two-hour event, in which there will be snackies and wine available. Last year there was a lack of space provided for authors to do book signings; this year I will make certain there is space for the signing and sale of books.

Publishers and readers are welcome too, but the setup is geared towards giving authors a chance to promote themselves and have fun doing so. As an author you are entitled to five minutes of presentation time to work with. If you want to do a reading or something else, please let me know ahead of time so I can ensure you have your own time slot.

Return of Anime Evolution!

Do you like Anime?

J-Fest will be a day filled with memories of past AEs. With new management, but the same dedicated volunteers that brought us the previous conventions, J-Fest is starting down the path to bring back Anime Evolution in 2013. It's all about getting people excited and bringing new people into the Anime community.

Anime Evolution’s revival has been a big focus of attention within the community this year. The convention is now run by the Vancouver Anime Convention Society, a new non-profit organization, ready to listen and act for the benefit of the Anime Community within Vancouver.

The new coordinators are ecstatic to pick up from where the old organization left off and to continue spreading the word. The society will be reinvigorating the proceedings to make Anime Evolution even better than before and create more wonderful memories for everyone.

J-Fest will be held at Douglas College on July 14th, 2012 from 10:00am – 6:00pm! See you all there!
