My first VCON (or any convention, actually) was VCON 33. I came with the freshly released (2nd edition) of my first novel, "Lifehack".

Happily, by VCON 34, "Watching Yute" was ready to go, so I got to release AT VCON.

Despite telling people then not to hold their breath for the next book to be out in time for VCON 35 (I committed not to rush things after Lifehack 1st edition!!).... well, it looks like 'Echoes of Erebus' will be ready.

Did I babble my way into a shameless self promotion thing? Oh well. I should have just made a thread called that. But this time, AND I MEAN IT, I will NOT have a new book for VCON 36. I'll still be there though..

EoE marks a nice end to my 'kinda-a-trilogy' Wait till y'all see it. All that said....I DO have ideas for a book to launch at VCON 37....

It looks like I can't save my sig editing, or upload a pic for some reason... so... more shameless self promo... go to ozero.ca. So there.

My novels will all be with my in the vendor's room: "Lifehack", "Watching Yute", and the new "Echoes of Erebus"! Learn about them at www.ozero.ca

Nice to See You!

It's so nice to see you in the forums Joseph and awesome news to hear you'll have another book to launch this year.

We've got some great stuff planned for this year, possibly including a writing contest or two, so keep your eyes open for future announcements.

PS: Hopefully you'll be able upload a new avatar image and set your signature the next time you try, but let me know if you continue to have problems.

Yeah, I got the avatar and

Yeah, I got the avatar and sig thing... seems that I HAD TO enter both fields of the password.. which is a little silly, as I wasn't on that page to reset my password.. but whichever. It's done.

I don't know if I'll have time to get into a writing contest... I'm not bringing my laptop or anything. IF I decide to stay in the hotel, (There's accessibility issues to be considered, which would also add to how much I have to cart in)... bah.. to heck with it. I'll commute again, and leave my gimp gear and laptop at home.

Being part of that "Hard sci fi" panel was a blast, even if I was the softest of the hard up there, and I came pretty close to revealing myself as a jack***. :)

Ahh, that poor young lady in the front row who I tormented by making fun of Stargate:Atlantis. I'm still looking over my shoulder for her.

Writing Contests & Venue Accessibility

Well, some of the contests are "pre-convention" contests where you submit an entry ahead of time for judging and prizes are awarded at the convention. We haven't got the details up yet, but they'll be under http://www.vcon.ca/community/contests when they do go up.

Also, I think this year's venue should be okay on the accessibility front.

Most of the convention rooms (art show, all the main programming rooms) are on the second level with easy elevator access, both from the main lobby and from upper hotel floors. There's one board room on the main floor that's right next to the function space elevator and Hospitality is planned for the hotel's "Concierge Suite" which is on the third floor and pretty close to the main hotel elevators.

We have also booked a few event rooms at the Sheraton Hotel (the Marriott, the Sheraton and a Hilton are all located in the same block and share the parking lots) as the Marriott alone didn't quite have enough space for all our needs. The Games Room, Dealers Room and Artists Alley will be over there and I'd estimate that the distance between the front door of the Marriott and the event space entrance at the Sheraton is about twice as wide as a typical two-way driveway.

Oh, I meant for overnight

Oh, I meant for overnight junk. I'm a little more high maintainence overnight than in the day. It just means I'll have to do the whole commuting shtick again this year. Oddly that despite 3 different locations, all 3 have been nearly an equal length of trip for in via transit*.

I was perfectly content that I could get around easily enough for the day's stuff, (that said, I should probably express my need for an 'end table' as the last 2 years, unless you want to see a bull running through other people's china shops every time I need to get in and out..)

*Next year, maybe hold the convention in one of Pitt Meadow's many many fine hote..... oh... wait.. nevermind.
