how to approch advertisers for VCon2010 con book???
What is the procedure for asking a business if they would be interested
in advertising in the VCon con book?
(Does the procedure involve showing a sample con book from a past VCon?)
Examples of potential advertisers:
(edit) restaurants near VCon 2010 hotel
video game stores?
Example: There are apparently 6 Play N Trade stores in BC.
South Surrey, BC: http://playntrade.com/storefinder/1048855 (I list them at top since probably more VCon volunteer can visit the store)
Courtenay, BC: http://playntrade.com/storefinder/1048849
Duncan, BC : http://playntrade.com/storefinder/1048832
Fort St John, BC: http://playntrade.com/storefinder/1048830
Salmon Arm, BC: http://playntrade.com/storefinder/1048829
Squamish, BC: http://playntrade.com/storefinder/1048828
There was apparently a Play N Trade in Vancouver on West 4th,
but when I phoned at 6pm an answering machine said they were closed
for "inventory" (or something like that). i might have found their twitter account, but it hasn't been updated for months

and the next building (a few meters away from Netaholics) there is

Is there something to leave behind with potential advertisers? A business card, pamphlet or something?
Not specifically for advertisers, no, but it is something we're working on. Once we have something it will be available for download and distribution from the Posters & Flyers page. I'm working on getting the regular downloadable flyers and posters up on that page right now, so you could use them in the interim even though there's no advertising rates on them.
I'll poke the person in charge of Advertising to at least get the rates so I can post them on the web site.
:-j(enni)
...or for the registration package, really
I've poked the advertising e-mail account with an enquiry about purchasing a spot on the rear of the programme (or the final Progress Report, as that will likely serve as the programme listing), and heard neither if it's available or what it price might be. Erm... hello?
I might also be interested in a spot in the post-event book (if there's one of those), but...
WILL NO-ONE TAKE MY MONEY?!?! [waves around schwack of brightly coloured currency]
Since that post above, all has be sorted-out and everything's set. Some of my money has even been taken by those who require it.

Yep, showing them an example of a previous year's program book is probably the best way to try and interest businesses in advertising in this year's. If they are interested, they can contact our Advertising Coordinator at advertising AT vcon DOT ca.
You can also direct them to the web site to learn more about the convention and (soon, very soon!) what the rates are for advertising this year.
I really like the suggestions you've made by the way - these are exactly the kind of places we'd love to have advertise with us or even get involved in other ways.
