Contests

Hey you! Wanna get more involved with VCON? Wanna win prizes or prestige or other such things? Then check out the contests we're running this year!

Two Minute Movie Expo

Do you wanna be rich?
Do you wanna be famous?
Do you wanna be a star?
Do you wanna be in movies?
Do you wanna see the world & drive nice cars?
Do you wanna have groupies?

Well, unfortunately we can't really do much to help you with most of that,
but maybe we can help you with the be in movies part...

New this year is the VCON Two Minute Movie Expo!

Movies will be made by you and your friends to premiere at VCON 35. You've never made a movie? That's okay! You're creative (of course you are, you're in fandom!) and you've watched movies thinking "I could do better!" Well, this is your chance. Grab your underwater digital camera, your old newsreel handcranker, your webcam or your first generation video phone and put together an epic story the likes of which the world has never seen ... in only two minutes.

What you need:
A movie as close as possible to two minutes in length, created by you, and released under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives 3.0 Licence.
What the movie needs:
Reference, either audio or visual, to both VCON and Steampunk.
What we need:
Your name, your contact info and, of course, your movie.
Who needs it:
Rick Arino, the Two Minute Movie Expo contest coordinator.
When we need it by:
Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010.

Movies will be screened in the VCON 35 Video Room on Friday, October 1st and Saturday, October 2nd. Voting will be done by member ballot during the convention and the Awards Presentation will take place at Closing Ceremonies on Sunday, October 3rd, 2010.

When you are ready to submit your movie, please register with the contest coordinator using the VCON Two Minute Movie Contest option on our Contact Form. You must include your name and contact information and a link to an online version of your movie uploaded to YouTube, Vimeo or another video service and with an appropriate title and description. Your registration must be recieved by the contest coordinator by or before midnight on Wednesday, September 22nd, Pacific time.

You will also need to provide us with a DVD copy for the on site screening. This can be mailed to the following address but must also be received by Wednesday, September 22nd. Be sure to mark your DVD clearly with your name and the title of your movie. If there is not enough time to ensure your DVD will be received by postal mail before the deadline, you must be prepared to bring a copy of the DVD to the convention and hand it in at the registration desk on Friday October 1st if you wish for it to be screened. (Registration will be open on Friday from noon to 8pm)
